Markets & Fairs in Northeast British Columbia

Markets and fairs have been central to community life in the Peace Region since the earliest days of settlement. What began as agricultural exhibitions and trading posts has evolved into a rich calendar of farmers markets, craft fairs, trade shows, and seasonal bazaars that draw vendors and visitors from across Northeast BC and beyond.

The Fall Fair Tradition

The Dawson Creek Fall Fair and Exhibition is one of the longest-running agricultural fairs in the Peace Region, celebrating the area’s farming and ranching heritage with livestock shows, produce competitions, midway rides, and entertainment. It remains one of the marquee events of the late summer calendar. Chetwynd and other communities host their own fall fair variations, each reflecting the character of their town. These fairs are where farming families showcase their best animals and garden harvests while the rest of the community comes out for the rides, food, and camaraderie.

Farmers Markets

Weekly farmers markets in Fort St. John and Dawson Creek are the heartbeat of the local food and artisan economy during the growing season. Vendors sell garden produce, meat, eggs, baking, honey, soaps, woodworking, and handmade crafts. The markets operate outdoors in the warm months and some transition to indoor venues as fall arrives, extending the season for producers and shoppers alike.

Christmas Markets and Craft Fairs

As the holiday season approaches, craft fairs and Christmas markets spring up in community halls, arenas, and event centres across the region. These are prime opportunities to find handmade gifts, home decor, and locally produced foods. The Fort St. John and Dawson Creek Christmas craft fairs are among the most popular, often featuring dozens of vendors over a single weekend.

  • Trade shows and home and garden expos showcase local businesses each spring
  • Flea markets and garage sale events offer treasure-hunting opportunities
  • Artisan markets highlight the work of regional craftspeople and makers
  • Agricultural exhibitions and 4-H shows celebrate the region’s farming youth
  • Indoor winter markets keep the local vendor economy active during the cold months

Whether you are hunting for the perfect handmade Christmas gift or looking to buy a flat of fresh strawberries direct from the grower, Northeast BC’s markets and fairs deliver an authentic local experience.

Discover farmers’ markets, craft fairs, trade shows, and seasonal bazaars across northeast British Columbia. From the bustling Fort St. John and Dawson Creek farmers’ markets to holiday craft sales and community swap meets, the Peace Region’s markets are a wonderful way to support local vendors and find unique treasures.
