Fundraisers & Charity Events in Northeast British Columbia

Generosity is a defining trait of Peace Region communities. In a part of the province where neighbours depend on each other through long winters and vast distances, fundraising is not an occasional activity but a year-round commitment. From black-tie galas at the Pomeroy Hotel in Fort St. John to pancake breakfasts at the legion hall in Pouce Coupe, Northeast BC communities rally behind their hospitals, schools, service organizations, and families in need with remarkable consistency.

Hospital Foundations and Health Care

The Fort St. John Hospital Foundation and the Dawson Creek and District Hospital Foundation are among the most active fundraising organizations in the region. Annual galas, golf tournaments, and radiothons raise substantial funds to purchase medical equipment and support health care services that serve the entire Peace Region. In a part of BC that is hours from the nearest major urban hospital, these foundations play a critical role in ensuring that local facilities can provide quality care close to home.

Service Clubs and Community Organizations

Rotary, Kinsmen, Kinettes, Lions, Elks, and Royal Canadian Legion branches operate across the Peace Region and are responsible for an extraordinary volume of fundraising activity. These service clubs organize everything from charity auctions and dinner-and-dance events to bottle drives and raffles. The funds they raise support youth programs, community infrastructure, emergency relief, and dozens of other local causes. Their events are also among the best social outings on the calendar, combining a good cause with a good time.

School and Youth Fundraisers

Schools across the Peace River School District and the Peace River South School District host fundraising events that range from fun runs and read-a-thons to silent auctions and spring carnivals. Parent advisory councils coordinate these efforts, raising money for field trips, playground equipment, technology upgrades, and graduation celebrations.

  • Charity golf tournaments are a summer staple at courses in Fort St. John and Dawson Creek
  • Silent and live auctions at galas feature donated items from local businesses
  • Community radiothons on local radio stations rally public donations for health care
  • Runs, walks, and cycling events raise funds while promoting fitness and awareness
  • Christmas hamper drives and toy drives ensure families in need have a holiday season to remember

When Northeast BC comes together for a cause, the results are consistently impressive. Supporting a local fundraiser is one of the most meaningful ways to participate in Peace Region community life.
