Education & Workshop Events in Northeast British Columbia
Northeast BC is a region that values practical skills and lifelong learning. From Northern Lights College campuses in Fort St. John, Dawson Creek, and Chetwynd to community-led workshops in rural halls, educational opportunities in the Peace Region are designed to meet the real needs of people living and working in the north. Whether you are upgrading trades credentials, learning to preserve garden produce, or attending a business seminar, there is something on the calendar for you.
Northern Lights College
Northern Lights College (NLC) is the post-secondary backbone of the region, with campuses and learning centres serving communities from Fort Nelson to Tumbler Ridge. NLC offers trades training, university transfer courses, health care programs, and continuing education that directly supports the region’s resource-based economy. The college regularly hosts public lectures, career fairs, and community education events that are open to everyone, not just enrolled students.
Community Workshops and Skill Building
Practical workshops are a staple of the Peace Region calendar. First aid and CPR certification courses run frequently through St. John Ambulance and other providers, reflecting the reality of a region where many people work in remote industrial and outdoor settings. Gardening workshops help northern growers navigate the short but productive growing season. Financial literacy seminars, small business workshops, and entrepreneurship programs support the local business community.
Libraries as Learning Hubs
Public libraries across the region have expanded well beyond book lending to become centres of community learning. Computer skills classes, resume writing workshops, English language learning groups, and maker-space activities are regularly scheduled at libraries in Fort St. John, Dawson Creek, and surrounding communities. These programs are typically free and open to all residents.
- Trades and safety certification courses run year-round through NLC and private providers
- Parenting workshops and early childhood development programs support young families
- Professional development seminars help workers advance their careers locally
- Art and music classes for adults offer creative outlets beyond the workplace
- Land management and agriculture workshops serve the farming community
In Northeast BC, education is not confined to a classroom. It happens in shop bays, community kitchens, library meeting rooms, and anywhere people are willing to share what they know.
Expand your knowledge and skills through education and workshop events across northeast British Columbia. From professional development seminars and creative workshops to library programs, training courses, and community lectures, the Peace Region offers lifelong learning opportunities for all interests.
